Buzz Aldrin Divorced for Third Time, Ex-Wife Takes Half His Fortune

The second man to step foot on the moon and former NASA astronaut Buzz Aldrin is getting divorced from his third wife. He will reportedly have to shell out half of his fortune as part of the agreement between the former space man and Lois Driggs Cannon.

The 82-year-old, who has had two previous high-profile marriages, officially ended his 23-year marriage to Cannon on Dec. 28.

As part of the agreement that was signed just before the New Year began, Cannon will receive 50 percent of the $475,000 in Aldrin's bank account, as well as half of the profits from his investments and business holdings, according to court documents.

In addition to getting half of the money in Adrin's account, Cannon will also receive $9,500 a month in spousal support and 30 percent of Aldrin's annual income, which according to tax filings is around $600,000.

Cannon will reportedly also get to keep her 1988 Mercedes, which has personal plates with the tag of "Moon Gal."

Records indicate that Aldrin officially filed for divorce from Cannon back in June 2011 after 23 years of marriage. The couple does not have any children together.

Aldrin was the second man to walk on the surface of the moon following fellow astronaut Neil Armstrong. The pair of astronauts made their historic landing during the space-flight of Apollo 11 on July 20, 1969.

Aldrin retired from the space program in 1973 and then entered the Air Force in a managerial position.

In both of Aldrin's autobiographies, "Magnificent Desolation" and "Return To Earth" he revealed the he had suffered from clinical depression while battling alcoholism after he left NASA.

He has also denied that he was upset over being the second man on the moon because his former counterpart received more attention after their moon landing.
