Holm first came into fame in 1943 with the original Broadway staging of "Oklahoma!" where she sang "I Cain't Say No." Just three years later, Holm headed toward Hollywood as a musical comedy performer. She landed roles in films such as "Carnival in Costa Rica" and "Three Little Girls in Blue," but then landed her biggest role yet in "Gentleman's Agreement."

Holm won the best supporting actress Academy Award for "Gentlemen's Agreement" in 1947. She was also nominated for the same award for "Come to the Stable" as well as "All About Eve."

In addition to numerous film appearances, Holm's credentials also include television. She started as a guest actress with "All Star Revue" in 1950 and concluding with an episode of "Whoopi" in 2004. In the meantime, she had her own series briefly- "Honestly, Celeste!"

Holm also appeared the Fairy Godmother in the 1965 "Cinderella" television series, and in the 1990s was featured in "Touched by an Angel" and "Promised Land."

On Twitter, many fans of Holm's are posting their grief as well as tributes to the actress on Monday.

"Sad news about Celeste Holm," wrote Lucy. "Another underrated actress gone."

Scott posted, "Oh, #RIP, Celeste Holm. Thanks for 'All About Eve,' one of the best films ever."
