Charlize Theron Adoption: 'Trying For A Long Time'

After news that Charlize Theron successfully adopted a baby boy broke on Wednesday, a source close to the star has opened up about the process.

The insider said that the Oscar-winning actress "has been trying to adopt a baby for a long time," according to People magazine.

The 36-year-old actress adopted an African baby boy, according to her representative's statement, released to the Associated Press.

"She is the proud mom of a healthy baby boy named Jackson," said Theron's publicist Wednesday. Jackson is the first child for the Africa-born actress.

The "Monster" star "has been very patient and has a great attitude," said the source. "[She] is ecstatic about finally becoming a mom."

While she takes on motherhood, Theron has said in the past that she has no interest in ever marrying.

"[Marriage] is not my thing," said the actress during an interview with People last year, adding that it was "never something that was important [to me]."

Theron was in a 9-year-long relationship with actor Stuart Townsend. Despite having once told Oprah that Townsend was "the best thing that ever happened to me," the couple split in Aug. 2010.

The insider noted that although she is a single mom, Theron has plenty of support with her new son.

"Charlize's mom [Gerda] has been helping out with the baby," said the insider. "She seems so happy and will be a great mom."

News of her adopting comes as no surprise, as the actress told Germany's In Touch magazine, "I want a baby. If it would happen tomorrow I would still be very happy about it."

Theron will appear in the upcoming film "Snow White and the Hunstmen" where she plays an evil queen in the modern twist to the fairytale. Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth co-star in the film, which hits theaters June 1.
