She was joined on stage with Channing Tatum to perform a dance routine while host Seth MacFarlane sang Fred Astaire's "The Way You Look Tonight."

"(It was) completely nerve-wracking, but how could I not dance with Channing Tatum? He's so wonderful," Theron told to E! Online after the Oscars.

"I was sort of tricked into it. I thought it was going to be something smaller, like (MacFarlane) pulls me up from the audience and we do a little spin. But then he was like, 'Rehearsals start Monday,'" she added.

Sunday night was deemed a success after Seth McFarlane kept the mood light and fluid as host.

MacFarlane was hired to inject a more youthful feel after producers felt that they needed to address changes in viewership and to remain edgy and current.

"Seth provides everything that we were looking for in terms of the host because he is relevant to an audience today and he's funny, charismatic," co-executive producer Neil Meron said of MacFarlane ahead of the event.

"He has great charm," he added. "He embodies kind of a post-millennium host in that tradition of Johnny Carson, Bob Hope and Billy Crystal. He is the next step in terms of making the show current."
