Atletico Madrid have been the surprise package in Spain and Europe this season. Everyone is so used to seeing Barcelona and Real Madrid as the top dogs out of Spain, but this season Atletico have emerged as new potential kings of Spain and Europe.

No one outside Barcelona and Real have won the Spanish la Liga for a decade, but this season Atletico are top with just a handful of games to go. They also knocked out rivals Barcelona in the Champions League quarter finals. They now have to take down one of Europe's most successful teams over the past decade, Chelsea, if they are to reach the final of Europe's most prestigious football competition and give themselves the chance of a dream double.

Chelsea meanwhile have also been stunned by an outsider this season in the English Premier League. Liverpool look on course to claim their first EPL title in more than two decades this season, and Chelsea have only been able to watch on helplessly as the Reds push on towards the title.

However, Chelsea managed to come through a very tough tie against Paris St Germain in the quarter finals of the Champions League, overturning a 1-3 first leg deficit to win on away goals after winning the second leg 2-0.

The Blues have one of the best defenses in Europe, and they will look to lock down Atletico's strikers and attacking players, and hit the Madrid team on the counter-attack. If they can score an away goal or two today they will feel confident of returning to Stamford Bridge and winning the tie. However, it must be said Atletico have been extremely efficient this season in both attack and defense, and they will not be easy fodder by any means for Chelsea even if the tie goes back to London as an open game.
