Chewbacca on Glee for Special Christmas Episode

Fans of television show “Glee” will get a special treat this holiday season when popular Star Wars character Chewbacca appears on the holiday Christmas episode that airs Dec. 13.

Actor Harry Shum, Jr., who plays Mike Chung on the show, shared with AOL TV that Chewbacca will make an appearance in Artie Abrams’ dream; although, he did not want to give too much away and spoil the episode. He called the news a “huge surprise” to the entire cast, and expressed his excitement by describing it as “incredibly awesome.”

Shum said that all the actors were so happy at the treat that they demanded the costumed actor come back to hang out with them and take pictures after he filmed his scene. Actors Chris Colfer and Mark Salling were the first to take their picture with the Wookie, which sparked some good-natured jealousy from their cast-mates.

It still has not been reported whether Peter Mayhew, the only actor to portray Chewbacca through all Star Wars movies, was the man inside the costume, but either way the “Glee” producers had to contact George Lucas, the creator of the franchise, and ask permission to include the furry character in the episode.

Matthew Morrison said on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" that Lucas agreed to lend “Chewie” for a day, and they had to fly in the unidentified actor, who lives in Northern California, to reprise his role.

Chewbacca remains one of the most loved Star Wars figures, and is one of the few fictional characters to win the MTV Life Time Achievement Award.
