Chicago Chef Feeds Thousands for Thanksgiving

A chef in Chicago is helping those less fortunate to have a warm meal this holiday season.

Chef Shay Atkins is calling on people to help with the first annual "Creative Turkey Cuisine" fundraiser. She is planning, along with her holiday orders, to give away over 1,000 turkeys to needy families this season hoping to feed 5,000 families.

"Creative Turkey Cuisine was a vision that has been made a reality. Healthy food is a fabulous form of happiness and during the holidays, happiness and food are not things that everyone can take for granted. The Annual Creative Turkey Cuisine Fundraiser is another vision I am determined to make a reality,” said Atkins.

Atkins was the winner of “Black Enterprise 2010 Elevator Pitch" competition for entrepreneurs. Her winning idea was the first ever turkey and vegetarian restaurant.

Atkins offers customers a variety of healthy treats that are savory. With 15 different choices of turkey from Thai Coconut Curry to Peaches and Rum to the classic Southern Fried, she is carving up the birds and filling stomachs this holiday.

Her turkeys are available for shipping. The turkeys are packed in vacuum-sealed oven bags and shipped with dry ice that allows the turkey to be at its peak of freshness when it arrives.
