Christina Aguilera Defends Weight, 'I Was Too Thin'

Christina Aguilera is no stranger to the media's scrutiny and has taken a firm stance on her own body image in a recent interview.

Once known for her petite figure, the singer and single mother has come under fire for gaining weight and wearing risqué clothes. Aguilera, 31, defended her wardrobe choices, proclaiming that she loves her body now more than ever while speaking to Lucky magazine.

"I have always loved dressing up, being theatrical," said Aguilera on her over-the-top looks.

"Actually, the challenge I've always had is being too thin, so I love that now I have a booty, and obviously love showing my cleavage," confessed the judge on NBC's "The Voice."

"Hey, if you can work it and you can own it, that confidence is going to shine through," added the singer.

The divorced singer, who is mom to 4-year-old Max, is currently working on a new album, her first since 2010's "Bionic."

Although she has not picked an album title, the new music will reflect "everything I've experiences until this point … I've been through a lot since the release of my last album," said Aguilera.

This is not the first time Aguilera has combated criticism about her weight; earlier this year, the singer cited her inner confidence while promoting "The Voice" during a press tour.

"As long as I am happy in my own skin, that is all the confirmation I need," said Aguilera.

As "The Voice" returns to NBC for its second season on Sept. 10, Aguilera noted that her position on the show has added to her personal growth.

"It's a big responsibility to help someone express themselves as an artist," she said, according to Lucky. "I take it seriously."

Alternately, at home, Aguilera is reportedly getting more serious with her longtime boyfriend Matt Rutler.

Her divorce from ex-husband Jordan Bratman was finalized in April 2011, and shortly after, the singer was spotted with Rutler.

"Matt has proposed to Christina at least three times," revealed a source close to the singer, according to The National Enquirer. "He's desperate to marry her."

The couple has not commented on the status of their relationship.
