Some evangelicals are having debates over electing Newt Gingrich as the "values" candidate; even though they applauded him for his sharp response to CNN debate moderator John King on Thursday night about his second wife. Southern Baptist ethicist Richard Land called Gingrich’s response tactically brilliant, but Land did say the question was valid and that the Republican party is one of family values. Gingrich has had two failed marriages due to infidelities and both his past two wives were mistresses. Gingrich counters with: his is a newfound Catholic, older, wiser and a grandfather figure.

Congresswoman Gabby Giffords thanked supporters for their prayers as she announced her resignation, saying it was time to focus on her full recovery. She suffered a brain injury when she was shot last year...

A month after Canada banned Muslim women from covering their faces during citizenship ceremonies, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says the policy has won widespread support. Kenney spoke at a Muslim Canadian Congress event honoring his decision. He said polling shows that eight out of 10 Canadians agreed with the decision while only 14% were opposed.

Lawmakers in Egypt have taken the oath of office. It's the first session of the Lower House of Parliament since the fall of Hosni Mubarak nearly a year ago. Islamist parties now hold nearly three-quarters of the seats, following elections that were completed earlier this month.

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh is on his way to New York for medical treatment this week. Saleh was badly burned and wounded during a June rocket attack on his compound in Yemen. The U.S. approved his visa and officials believe Saleh's exit from Yemen could lower the risk of disruptions in the lead-up to presidential elections planned for Feb. 21. Saleh ruled Yemen for more than three decades. He agreed to transfer power to his vice-president late last year in exchange for immunity from prosecution. This followed months of protests and a bloody crackdown.

The wave of attacks on Christians by Islamic extremist group Boko Haram in Nigeria continues. Since Friday over 150 people have been killed in Kano City after two churches and a security checkpoint were attacked. President Goodluck Jonathan visited numerous bomb sites as well as the local hospital to see victims and their families. He offered his condolences and words of comfort.

The secret is finally out after five years on the gender of a child from the U.K. It’s a boy. Sasha’s parents, Beck Laxton and Kieran Cooper actually kept his gender a secret all these years to make a statement against gender stereotypes. Beck is a self professed radical feminist. Sasha’s gender was revealed because he is now in school. Sasha is allowed to wear a pink tu-tu, dress up as a fairy, play with dolls, and wear whatever he likes. Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary says we were created by a holy God, whose plans and purposes for us are, inescapably, tied to our gender.


A former Miss Congeniality beauty queen plans on pleading guilty to participating at the Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver. 20-year old Sophie Labois-Sonniere, is alleged to be among the horde of rioters that looted London Drugs in downtown Vancouver following the Canucks’ Game Seven loss. Sophie participated in the Miss B.C. pageant a few months before the riot occurred. She is now in a plea discussion with the Crown.
