'Criminal Minds' Season 9 Begins Filming Today, July 9

The very popular CBS crime drama "Criminal Minds" has begun filming its ninth season today, Tuesday July 9.

Announcing the start of filming, and sharing his mixed feelings about returning to work, Sherman Moore, who plays Derek Morgan on "Criminal Minds," sent out a Facebook status update to friends and fans of the show on Monday, July 8.

"Checking in at work today CM9 starts shooting tomorrow.. Derek Morgan and goatee back in action.. Vacation OVER!!!" Moore wrote.

A lot is planned for the season nine premiere. The first episode will be a two-part episode, and at least one guest star has already been lined up for the premiere. Seasoned dramatic actress Camryn Manheim is confirmed to guest star.

Manheim will be playing the role of UnSub's protective and doting mother, TVLine.com reports. And there is speculation that Manheim will not just serve as UnSub's protector, but also has some issues and plot lines of her own.

Coming as a huge relief for fans, the entire cast of "Criminal Minds" will be returning for season nine, Huffington Post Reports.

The first episode will be will be directed by actor Joe Montengna, who plays David Rossi on the hit drama, according to E! News. It will be his first time serving as director for the show.

When talking to E! News at the 2013 Monte Carlo Television Festival, Montengna discussed his plans for directing. He also wants "to try and have some input on some storylines."

The "Criminal Minds" season premiere will air on CBS on Sept. 25 at 9 p.m.
