Dakota Fanning Joins 'Franny' With Richard Gere

Dakota Fanning is extending her film credits to include "Franny" this year.

The 19-year-old Georgia native will star opposite of Richard Gere and Theo James in the indie drama.

Despite her sweet and innocent appearance, Fanning has filled many dark roles such as the evil Jane Volturi in "Twilight" as well as a wild singer in "The Runaways."

In "Franny," Fanning is set to portray Olivia, the new wife of Luke (portrayed by James). The story follows a hedonistic philanthropist (Gere) who interferes in the newlywed's life in order to recreate the life he once had, according to Variety.

The film has not yet received a release date.

In the meantime, Fanning will next appear in "Every Secret Thing."

Alternately, James is best known for his role in "Divergent."

As for Gere, the 64-year-old veteran actor was recently nominated for an Oscar with his role in "Arbitrage."

While his acting career is still going strong, reports arose this week that indicated Gere and his wife of 11 years, Carey Lowell, are going their separate ways.

According to the New York Post, the couple has been "spending time apart for quite some time."

Following divorce proceedings, Gere and Lowell are expected to share custody of their son, Homer.

"They have a place in Bedford, NY, and he likes it because it's quiet and he likes the solitude," a source at the Post said. "She likes being in North Haven in the limelight. They live next to Jimmy Buffet and his family, and they're good friends."

Gere had been married once before to Cindy Crawford with whom he remained friends. It was his supermodel ex who introduced Gere to Lowell, according to the Daily Mail.

Representatives for the couple have declined comment on the status of their relationship.
