Megadeth, Rick Santorum Endorsement Rumors False: 'I Never Said Endorse'

David Mustaine has openly endorsed Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum for president, according to reports. According to David Mustaine, though, that's not true.

Megadeath front man David Mustaine has come forward to clear the air about rumors that have suggested that he is endorsing Rick Santorum for president.

"Contrary to how some people have interpreted my words, I have not endorsed any presidential candidate," NoiseCreep quoted the singer. "What I did say was that I hope to see a Republican in the White House."

The original report was run by MusicRadar.com during an interview with the musician. When asked about his views for the 2012 election the singer responded: "I'm just hoping that whatever is in the White House next year is a Republican. I can't bear to watch what's happened to our great country. Everybody's got their head in the sand. Everybody in the industry is like, 'Oh, Obama's doing such a great job...' I don't think so. Not from what I see."

The singer then went on to talk about the reasons why he was not completely satisfied with Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Newt Gingrich. He commented on Romney's five sons having million dollar trust funds and added that although he still liked Gingrich, it seemed he had returned to being "that angry little man."

He then gave a seemingly positive review of Santorum.

"Earlier in the election, I was completely oblivious as to who Rick Santorum was, but when the dude went home to be with his daughter when she was sick, that was very commendable," he said.

He was also appreciative of that fact that Santorum hadn't sold out into producing negative television ads like he felt some of the other candidates had.

"You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I'm hoping that if it does come down to it, we'll see a Republican in the White House ... and that it's Rick Santorum," the singer added.

Despite the positive review, Mustaine was clear that he had not "endorsed" Santorum.

"I've seen good qualities in all of the candidates but by no means have made my choice yet," Mustaine confirmed. "I respect the fact that Santorum took time off from his campaign to be with his sick daughter, but I never used the word 'endorse.'"
