Denver Police Officer Killed, Single Mother Shot in Park Concert (VIDEO)

Police are on the search for a gunman after a policewoman was shot and killed Sunday in Denver during a Jazz festival in the park.

Although one man was arrested and charged for being in possession of a gun, officials do not believe they have caught the individual responsible for shooting a female police officer in the head on Sunday afternoon during a park jazz fest.

At least three shots were fired when the music came to a finish, causing an eruption of chaos as people took to their feet and ran, according to Huffington Post.

The jazz fest was a free family event which took place weekly in the park pavilion. According to Police spokesman Sonny Jackson, who spoke with the Associated Press, the officer killed was a single mother who had been with the department since 2005. Jackson reported that the officer was shot in the head at the park and taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Over 1,000 people were in attendance at the festival on Sunday when the shots broke loose.

"We just arrived at the park. It was crowded, it was looking fun and then `pa-pa-pa-pa' outta nowhere," Samuel Bell, 19, told AP News. "We pulled off in enough time to get away. It was crazy."

Police believe the shooting to be an isolated incident. Locals who frequented the jazz in the park event hoped the sad event would not put an end to the music.

"I'm trying to show them music, but at what cost?" Nakira Doss, a jazz singer herself, told Fox News while pointing at her children.

"We will not surrender what we consider special in this city to anyone," Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said.
