These teams will have looked on enviously at the St Louis Cardinals as they secured their place in the World Series on Friday night. However, the Red Sox will be hoping that it is their turn tonight.

Boston leads the ALCS 3-2 with the series now moving back to Boston for Game 6, and if needed, Game 7.

That gives the Red Sox the clear advantage; they just have to win one of their two home games remaining to win the pennant and go through to the World Series against the Cardinals.

The Red Sox will be putting their hopes in Clay Buchholz, who will be starting on the mound for Game 6. If he can have a good game then he could lead the Red Sox to their first trip to the World Series since 2007.

Buchholz had a tough time in Game 2 and will not have been satisfied with how things went. He allowed five runs on eight hits in 5 2/3rds innings. When he departed the Red Sox were 5-0 down and looking highly likely to be heading for a second straight loss in the series that would have left them 0-2.

However, he will have been relieved to see his team mates make a dramatic comeback, getting a single run at the bottom of the sixth, before leveling the game in the eighth with four more, thanks to a David Ortiz grand slam. They then amazingly completed their comeback with a walk off single run in the ninth to win 6-5.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are fighting for the their lives today, and know that nothing less than two wins out of two will do now if they are to make the World Series.

They will give the ball to Max Scherzer, who was the MLB wins leader during the regular season. He struck out 13 Red Sox hitters in seven innings in Game 2 and surrendered only one run on two hits.
