Would Jesus Really Miraculously Appear Through a Walmart Receipt? Your Reactions

A U.S. couple has reported to have met Jesus Christ this week; when he appeared to them on their Walmart receipt. The Christian Post reported on the story earlier this week, and since then has received an overwhelming response from readers reacting to the alleged miracle.

For those that have not yet heard, a couple from Anderson County, S.C. reported that a phenomenon occurred after they used the photo development service in a Walmart store. Jacob Simmons and Gentry Lee Sutherland left their receipt on a table as they went to a Wednesday night Bible Study.

Later when they returned they noticed the extraordinary image. They saw the ink-blotted bushy beard, facial structure and two eyes that appeared to take the form of a divine face.

"The more you look at it, the more it looked like Jesus,” Sutherland told NBC. “It was just shocking, breathtaking."

Although the couple has been sharing the peculiar image with family and friends, Sutherland does not expect everyone to believe their story. However, she said there is no doubt in her mind about the image on her receipt.

"People are going to believe what they want to believe," Sutherland told NY Daily News."There (are) tons of people who will say, 'Oh, we're in the Bible Belt,' but here's my question to the doubters, who else has the power to put their face on a check-out receipt but Jesus?"

Christian Post readers have been sharing their thoughts:

One blogger Raina Proske responded skeptically: “Yeah, and there was the perfect image of a turkey buzzard and of Piglet on my ceiling in the old house, too. On the same ceiling! Above my bed! I considered worshiping them.”

Another called Ed Eichler from Mt. San Antonio College had a more scientific explanation: “you realize that that receipt paper is thermally activated right? you could use a warm french fry to draw anything you want on those things.”

James Peterson from the University of Pheonix was more supportive: “Praise God for this miraculous sign. I hope that the couple will now have more awe of Jesus, study the Bible more diligently at their weekly study, and spread the Good News!”

One blogger, Rima Khalil’s love for hand sanitizers allowed her to give an educated explanation about what had happened: “God doesn't work this way. This type of darkening happens when u you use hand sanitizers and then touch the receipt. If u look close enough u can see palm/fingerprints on it. This happens to me all the time. I am a big user of hand sanitizers. And I have seen this before. Try it for yourself and see.

Debora League from Saint Simons Island, Georgia was another skeptic, and was concerned about society’s obsession with thinking that any bearded figure could be Jesus: “Why does a face with a beard always have to be Jesus? Why not Willie Nelson or Charlie Manson? Or my neighbor who wears a beard? Wake up!”

Greg Autrey from Orlando, Florida joked: “We all know how much Jesus loves those Walmart people!”

Mary Nelms Navarro from Hearne, Texas contemplated: “Alot of people making these comments have no faith at all and don't believe in miracles. Well, Jesus does work in mysteries ways and I'm not saying that this reciept is real because I know there are people out there that will do anything to get attention, but I feel if Jesus wanted to make him self present he would anywere and any place. I believe it can happen.”
