Duchess Kate in Swiss Alps, Opts Out of Skiing

The pregnant Kate Middleton has traded in her skis for sledding during her visit to the Swiss Alps this week.

While visiting the slopes at the luxury Arosa resort, the Duchess Kate and her husband William attended the wedding of close friend and polo player Mark Tomlinson and Olympian Laura Bechtolshemier.

The next day, wedding guests including Kate, Prince William and Prince Harry attended a celebratory brunch and then took to the Swiss mountains, according to Mail Online.

However, the 31-year-old expectant mother did not join William and Harry on the slopes. A skilled skier, Middleton opted for sledding, likely out of safety precautions regarding her pregnancy.

Instead, the Duchess was spotted on a solitary walk in the Swiss mountains on Monday, according to PopSugar. Furthermore, the royal was photographed looking relaxed and toting a toboggan while traversing the snowy landscape.

Middleton, who is almost five months pregnant, looked relaxed in black pants paired with furry black boots and a brown fur-trimmed coat.

Sunday, the Duke and Duchess along with Prince Harry beamed at the bride and groom during the wedding ceremony. Wearing a cream coat trimmed with brown fur over a floral dress and a matching pillbox hat, Middleton even threw a handful of confetti into the air as the newlyweds emerged after the ceremony.

The pregnancy may have stopped the Duchess from skiing, but Middleton has not let the royal baby affect her fashion choices. During the wedding, the mother-to-be paired her Max Mara dress with heels and was seen "walking gingerly up the steps to the church," an onlooker told People magazine.

"She was being very careful in her heels," the source added.

The snowy outing is a far cry from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridges' recent trip to the Caribbean island of Mustique last month. The royal couple has resumed their duties following Middleton's bout with acute morning sickness during the early stages of her pregnancy, and they are expecting their first child's arrival in July.
