"Duck Dynasty" star John Luke Robertson and fiancée Mary Kate McEacharn are busy planning their wedding but have said that God takes priority in their relationship and will guide their marriage.

"We said in the beginning when we started dating that if our relationship is not centered on God and if we're not encouraging one another to stay faithful and to just love people, then we have no relationship at all," Robertson told FOX411. "When I was growing up [my parents] taught me to set my own rules and guidelines, to stay pure."

He and McEacharn went to school together, and while he wanted to date her, she was not too certain about starting a relationship with anyone.

"I never had a boyfriend before and I had just been waiting and thought God would send someone to me," she explained. "I was just very particular whenever it came to who I would date and I had to get to know him first and see if he was up to my standards."

Robertson finally won McEacharn over, and the couple began dating. However, they were both dedicated to keeping God at the heart of their relationship. They had seen how devoted their parents were to the Lord and wanted the same for themselves. In fact, before proposing to McEacharn, Robertson sought permission from her parents as well as his own.

One thing the couple has to contend with is Robertson's fame, and that of his family as well. McEacharn said it was "interesting" dating a reality star. "I guess through our dating life, I was seeing how it was for him and seeing what all of that was about. I didn't realize how much things would change, though, when we did get engaged. It has been very interesting, but good, all that's happening."

The couple, both 19, have faced criticism for marrying at a young age, but they have not let that deter them from doing so. They know that they have God's blessing and the support of loved ones who only want them to be happy.

"As far as negative people go, we decided a long time ago we weren't going to listen to them," Robertson explained. "As far as being married goes, everyone has said something about us getting married too young and I think pretty much all of them are unmarried."

The couple has yet to decide on a date, though Robertson would love to get married "right away." His bride-to-be, however, prefers a summer wedding.
