Duggar Family News: Jessa and Ben Seewald Share Baby's Name

The new member of the Duggar clan has just arrived and Jessa Duggar Seewald and her husband Ben have a lengthy story to tell about their son's name.

Jessa said earlier that she wanted her baby's name to be coined from "heroes from the Christian faith" and it seems the couple have really spent time thinking about the best name for their newborn child.

When she was still pregnant, Jessa asked her fans for suggestions. The expectant mom received over 100,000 names as suggestions, but as tradition goes, parents will always have the last say.

Born on Nov. 5, weighing 9 pounds 11 ounces, and measuring 21 and a half inches long, Jessa and Ben's baby is named Spurgeon Elliot Seewald.

The couple tells People that their son's name was derived from that of widely acclaimed English preacher Charles Spurgeon. 20-year-old Ben says, "One guy that has really impacted my life is a great preacher of the past, Charles Haddon Spurgeon." The Baptist preacher is known for his ability to speak in front of tens of thousands. He is also the founder of Spurgeon's College in London, a school that raises future pastors and missionaries.

Elliot, on the other hand, comes from the last name of beloved missionaries to South America, Jim and Elisabeth Elliot. Elisabeth is adored by the world for her testimony of going back to Ecuador to be a mentor of the Gospel to the Indian tribe that killed her husband.

In an separate interview with the same magazine, Jessa shares her travail as she gave birth to baby Spurgeon. She was about to give up on her dream of delivering peacefully at home, but after almost 48 hours of labor, the precious child was born at home in the presence of Michelle, the Duggar clan's matriarch, and a midwife.

However, another challenge bothered the couple as Jessa started to bleed than normal. She was then rushed to the hospital and underwent a blood transfusion. The next day, she went home with the bundle of joy.

The family of three are now starting anew in their Springdale, Arkansas home.
