Eddie Murphy Dead? Rumors Surface on Web

Actor and comedian Eddie Murphy is the latest subject of death rumors with some claiming he recently died in a snowboarding accident. While the actor is alive and well, the rumors have been traced back to an organization that continually issues false statements about celebrity deaths.

"The actor and novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Eddie Murphy lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed," said a statement by Global Associated News.

Murphy's agent also issued a statement assuring fans that he is perfectly fine and that the rumors are completely unfounded.

Global Associated News has put out quite a few announcements of celebs' deaths, which then turned out to be false.

In the past few months, Reba McEntire has been rumored to have fallen off a mountain in Austria. The country music superstar took to Twitter to announce that she was, in fact, not dead but "alive and kicking! While I would love to be shooting a movie in Austria, I definitely did not fall off a mountain!"

Murphy himself has been the repeated subject of death rumors. In February, he was reported dead after being in a car crash. MediaFetcher.com announced that "actor Eddie Murphy died in a single vehicle crash between Ipswich and Willowbank in Queensland."

Those who knew Murphy immediately refuted the rumors and worked to reassure fans that he was nowhere near Australia at the time of the reported crash.

Twitter has been a site often used to spread rumors of celebrity deaths, including those of Charlie Sheen, Tiger Woods, Jon Bon Jovi, and Cher. The rumors often cause panic among fans who do not realize that their idol is actually alive and well.

Kim Kardashian famously fell for the Twitter death hoax of Cher and tweeted, "Did I just hear that Cher has passed away? Is this real? OMG. I'm praying it's not true." Her agent reportedly informed her later that Cher was, in fact, doing just fine.
