Elton John and Madonna Feud at Golden Globes

Sir Elton John took a jab at Madonna in a red carpet interview prior to the Golden Globe awards.

When interviewed by Carson Daly for NBC on the way into the 69th annual awards show, Daly pointed out that there was a lot of competition in the “Best Original Song for a Motion Picture” category.

“Well absolutely we’ve got a lot of competition. I probably think that Mary J. Blige might win it for 'The Help'. But Madonna hasn't got a F---- chance,” John responded by laughing and saying.

His curse word had to be bleeped for the family friendly network.

When Daly asked if those were fighting words, John said, “those are accurate words.”

But Madonna did not back down from the critically acclaimed musician. She threw in a jab of her own in an interview with Daly just a short while after John’s interview.

"Was he wearing a green dress?" Madonna asked when Daly told her that her “buddy” Elton John had some choice words for her.

When Daly told her John said she did not have a chance she responded saying, “oh man, those are fighting words,” and “may the best man win.”

But Madonna had the last laugh as she went home with the award for the song “Masterpiece” which she worked on for the movie “W.E.,” which the singer/ actress also directed.

Elton John’s song “Hello, Hello” for the animated film “Gnomeo and Juliet” was produced by David Furnish, who is also his husband. John told Daly the piece was 11 years in the making.

After her win, Madonna reached out to John by acknowledging his great work and saying she hopes he will speak to her again.

“I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years. He's known to get mad at me. He's brilliant and I adore him, so he will win another award. And I don't feel bad!”

But John’s husband felt they were snubbed. He had some more choice words for Madonna and the academy, which he left on his Facebook page.

“Madonna. Best song???? F--- off!!! ... Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism. And her criticism of Gaga shows how desperate she really is,” he wrote.

Lady Gaga is the Godmother of Furnish and John’s son. She also collaborated on the “Gnomeo and Juliet” album with Furnish.

In an interview with “20/20,” Madonna said she did believe she influenced Lady Gaga’s work. When asked specifically on critics charges that Gaga’s “Born this Way” was very similar to Madonna’s “Express Yourself” Madonna answered “when I heard it on the radio, I said that sounds very familiar.”

Madonna is reportedly releasing her first studio album in five years on Interscope Records at the end of this month.
