'Epiphany Prize' Nominees for Most Inspiring Movie, TV Program Announced

The organization behind the annual "Epiphany Prize" has announced this year's nominees.

Vying for a shot at the $100,000 Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring Movie of 2008 are, in alphabetical order, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," "The Family That Preys," "Fireproof," "Grand Torino," and "Henry Poole is Here." Nominees for the $100,000 Epiphany Prize for Most Inspiring TV Program of 2008, meanwhile, are "The Christmas Choir," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "John Adams," and "The Medal: Celebrating Our Nation's Highest Honor."

The nominees were announced during a press conference hosted this past Wednesday by Movieguide, a media ministry that helps families make informed media choices through its magazine, website, radio programs, and TV shows.

The top prizes this year were doubled from last year's $50,000 awards thanks to the John Templeton Foundation, which Movieguide founder Dr. Ted Baehr said "continues to see the impact that positive, spiritually uplifting entertainment from Hollywood can have on our culture."

"This is an extremely gracious decision by the Templeton Foundation," Baehr said.

For over two decades, Movieguide has been dedicated to "redeeming the values of the entertainment industry" by influencing industry executives and informing the public about the influence of the entertainment media.

Every year around Oscar time, the ministry hosts its Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry in Hollywood, where it rewards the best family-friendly movies and TV shows of the previous year, as well as the most moral and Christ-centered films for mature audiences.

At the gala, Baehr also presents highlights from his Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry, which he provided a sneak peak of during the recent press conference.

This year's gala, which will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., will mark event's 17th year.

The winners of the Epiphany Prizes will be presented at the gala on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
