Fathers Day: Restaurants' Freebies List Here

This Father's Day, restaurants and stores across the U.S. are offering dads free or discounted offers in celebration on Sunday.

Similar to Mothers Day in May, Fathers Day honors fatherhood and the role dads play in the household as well as in the lives of their families.

Observed each year on the third Sunday in June, this Fathers Day will see pleasant weather in many areas of the U.S.

Furthermore, many families are celebrating dads by buying Fathers Day gifts and cards and taking the entire family out for a special meal on Sunday.

Several national chains such as Chilis and Boston Market are offering deals on menu items. In fact, Chilies is offering fathers a flatbread appetizer for $9, while Boston Market is giving away a ribs meal valued at $10.99 to customers with a coupon.

At some IKEA locations, dads can enjoy a free breakfast of scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon and a cup of coffee before 11 a.m.

Fathers Day also scores dads a free six-ounce cup of frozen yogurt at participating TCBY locations.

When it comes to shopping, Old Navy is offering $10 off $50 purchases on Fathers Day, while Dick's Sporting Goods is offering $15 off $75 purchases from LivingSocial.com.

At JC Penney, rewards members can receive a free Michael Graves picture from with their home purchase of $25 on Fathers Day.

Meanwhile, Fathers Day has been a celebration for over 100 years, according to FathersDayBirthPlace.com.

Sonora Smart Dodd from Spokane, Washington is credited with founding the celebration after she heard about Mothers Day and wanted to show her father a similar honor.

Ahead of Fathers Day, the holiday became a trending topic on Twitter on Friday with many users honoring their dads.

Television is also honoring fathers everywhere, and late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon even asked fans to tweet about their favorite dad quotes using the hashtag #DadQuotes. Watch the video here.
