Firmware 4.0.0 for Switch Update News: Video Capture, Wireless Audio, Data Transfers Now Possible on Switch

Nintendo has just stepped up the game for the Switch. On Oct. 19, the tech giant pushed a new update for the console, which includes new exciting features like video capture, account transfers, and support for wireless USB headphones.

Reports reveal that the new 4.0.0 firmware update for the Switch now allows the console to support USB wireless headphones for both docked and handheld modes. However, fans should take a few precautions.

First, users should not confuse the wireless USB with Bluetooth headphones, primarily because Bluetooth headphones do not work with the console. According to Nintendo, Switch owners who have wireless headphones with USB connectors, like the one found in PlayStation Gold headphones, will be able to plug in the USB receiver into the dock of the console while in TV mode to be able to get wireless audio.

Meanwhile, things get a bit more tedious when using handheld mode, as it requires the Switch owner to use a USB-C adapter dongle. To use this function, players will need to attach their wireless headphone receivers to the USB-C port at the bottom of the Switch to get wireless audio.

Although the latest firmware is already available for download and is capable of delivering necessary features, some of its features only work with four games for now, including "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe," "ARMS," and "Splatoon 2." With the new video capture feature, users can now automatically capture 30 seconds of gameplay and store the captured video in the system's album.

Another new feature, the data transfer, is also an exciting development, but it is still limited. Through this update, Switch users can now easily move their user profiles and saved game data from one console to another. However, Nintendo revealed that once the transfer is completed, all the data that had been transferred will no longer be available on the source console.
