Two seasons of the HBO hit drama "Game of Thrones" have gone by with mention, sight, or hint at the character of Alliser Thorne. However, it appears that the show will reprise his role and bring back the dark brooding character in its upcoming forth season.
Owen Teale, the actor who played Alliser Thorne, recently announced his comeback to the HBO drama when speaking to Wales Online.
In addition to announcing the role's reprise, Teale offered some insight into Thorne's character and role on the show.
"[Thorne's] a ruthless sergeant major-type," the Welsh actor said. "He's a twisted character who's been very damaged in the past."
Teale also provided Wales Online with some insight into how much he enjoys being a part of "Game of Thrones."
Teale said of the role of Thorne, "He's great to play and there's some fantastic dialogue."
It is a bit odd to have a character return after such a long absence. In season one of "Game of Thrones" Thorne served as a foil to Jon Snow. Thorne encouraged aggression and violence among the recruits and even tried to get them to gang up on fellow new recruit Sam Tarly. Lucky for Sam, Jon stepped in and intervened, saving Sam. What will be the role of Thorne in the fourth season? Will he still be Jon's foil?
It is expected that the forth season of the HBO drama will be heavily based on "A Storm of Swords," and "A Feast for Crows," which are the third and fourth books, respectively, in the series penned by George R. R. Martin.
Filming for the fourth season of the popular HBO drama will begin next month.
"Principal photography starts in July," Donna Hughes, wardrobe supervisor, said at a Northern Ireland panel discussion, according to RadioTime.com
