Ratings for the show have seen a decline according to Nielson Co. The show had an average of 546,000 viewers a night this year falling 40 percent in the second season compared to the first.

‘Lopez Tonight’ aired right after Conan O’Briens’s talk show ‘Conan,’ which averaged over twice the viewers this year at 1,138,000 a night.

Lopez’s show was pushed back to a 12am spot to accommodate ‘Conan’ which airs at 11pm, ‘Lopez Tonight’s’ old time slot.

When Conan O’Brien came to TBS, Lopez expressed his excitement and was happy to move for O’Brien, who he said he called and urged him to come to the network.

“I can’t think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in,” Lopez said at the time. “It’s the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy.”

O’Brien came to TBS late night last November after leaving NBC in January 2010. He walked away from the station after he left over a high-profile clash with management over the time slot of his show. Upon his departure he received $45 million dollars and permission to work on another show in the fall thanks to an agreement he made with NBC.
