Google Announces Touch Screen LTE Chromebook Pixel Laptop

Google announced the new Chromebook Pixel touch screen laptop this week.

The device features one of the finest displays on the market which has a 2560 x 1700 resolution and packs the highest pixel density for any laptop screen including Apple's Retina MacBook Pro line. Google's plans to bring touch to its Chromebook line first surfaced when a video of this new computer went viral last month.

The Chromebook Pixel weighs just 3.35 lbs. and features a 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 Processor, Intel HD Graphics 4000, 4G RAM, two USB ports, mini display port, 2-in-1 card reader, and a 32GB SSD. Google also claims that its battery can last up to five hours on one charge and the screen is 12.85-inches.

The Pixel's design features a body made from anodized aluminum, which makes for a smooth and durable surface. The vents on the device are hidden in order to improve on the look and the speakers are tucked away beneath the backlit keyboard. The touch screen is constructed from etched glass and is analyzed and honed using a laser microscope. The Pixel also features a 720p webcam and three microphones designed for canceling out surrounding noise.

The Chromebook Pixel is available for purchase in the U.S. and U.K. starting today, according to Google. Another interesting fact about the new laptop is that it features LTE connectivity so users will have access to the internet in locations that don't have Wi-Fi or wired internet.

The Wi-Fi only version goes on sale today and costs $1,299. The LTE model will ship in April and costs $1,449. Google is also offering 1TB of free of Drive cloud storage for three years with the purchase of the Chromebook Pixel. This would normally cost around $50 month, making it an $1800 value total.
