Google Chairman Announced the Release Time for Google Glass

Google's chairman Eric Schmidt recently revealed the time of release for the company's upcoming Google Glass product.

Schmidt stated in an interview with BBC that customers will not be able to get their hands on the new technology until 2014. He also revealed that Google will probably be making changes to the Explorer Edition before the final consumer release.

"Well, the developers are beginning now. It would be fair to say that there will be thousands of these in use by developers over the next few months and based on their feedback we'll make some product changes and it's probably a year-ish away," he said.

The statement points to Google launching this product sometime in 2014. The device was originally expected to be available for purchase before the end of 2013. This new date is closer to what the company's co-founder Sergey Brin set when he demonstrated Glass in June of last year. At that time, Brin stated that he hoped to have the Explorer Edition out by early 2013, with a broad consumer offering to follow around one year after that.

Schmidt did not reveal any pricing information, but he did answer some crucial questions related to privacy concerns for those wearing Google Glass.

"In general, these kinds of body wearable devices will bring in a bunch of such concerns and the fact of the matter is we'll have to develop some new social etiquette," he said. "It's obviously not appropriate to wear these glasses in situations where recording is not correct. And indeed you already have these sorts of problems with phones."

Google Glass is currently being assembled at a Foxconn factory in California. The company also plans to award 8,000 competition winners with the high-tech headset and will ship to developers this year.
