Grey's Anatomy Season 8 Premiere Tonight on ABC

The eighth season of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” will premiere tonight on ABC during a 2-hour special starting at 9 p.m.

The hit medical drama was created by Shonda Rhimes, and stars Kate Walch, Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh, Patrick Dempsey, among many other celebrity actors.

Shonda Rimes spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about what viewers can expect this season. Rhimes said, “The season premiere really is about how Cristina’s (played by Oh) pregnancy impacts her relationship with Owen (McKidd) and what it means for them in the future.”

The onscreen couple has learned they are pregnant.

Rhimes continued, “The decision she makes and that he males really are going to have long-reaching repercussions.”

Cristina has made it very clear that she does not want children, and the character had an abortion in Season 1 of the show.

“I try to keep it honest to how I think people really behave as opposed to sugar coating it,” Rhimes said of the show during the interview.

“Once you’ve done 15- episodes of something, to keep it fresh is the challenge and we’re obsessed with that.”

In 2006, the series won the Golden Globe Award for Best Dramatic Series, and also claims three Emmy Awards.

About the eighth season of the show, actor Dempsey stated in Vanity Fair’s interview, “It will be my last. I do not know about the other characters. But for me it’s over.”

He later retracted the statement and indicated his plans are not certain.

Twitter has been flooded with longtime fans expressing their excitement over the season premiere.
