'Hobbit 3' Changing Name Before Release Date?

The Hobbit 3 is rumored to undergo a name change before the actual release date.

The film was originally supposed to be called The Hobbit: There and Back Again but now might be changed to The Hobbit: Into the Fire.

The news originated from the well-known Lord of the Rings fan-site called TheOneRing.net. The site claims a reliable source revealed that New Line has registered the new title. New Line also registered the unused The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies a few years ago, but that name was never used.

New Line might have flipped on There and Back Again since it could be viewed as unexciting, as the previous film The Desolation of Smaug failed to achieve the success of the first film in the series. Into the Fire seems a bit more enticing. This new name could appeal to those that haven't seen the first two Hobbit movies.

TheOneRing.net suggested that this new title could be a reference to the chapter in the book titled "The Hobbit: Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire."

"Or maybe it's a nod to the chapter of The Hobbit Out of the Frying Pan, Into The Fire," wrote the site. "We've seen dialogue get reapportioned in entirely different contexts in this way before. But I can't see why they'd abandon There and Back Again – part of the novel's title merely to do that."

New Line could also be planning a movie tie-in that no one knows about at this point and needs to reserve the intellectual property rights.

The Hobbit 3 is scheduled to open in theaters in the U.S. on Dec. 17 of this year. It is the final film in the series based on the 1937 book.
