Honey Boo Boo's Mom: 'Couponing is a Serious Obsession' (VIDEO)

Honey Boo Boo may not be the only member of her family fighting for attention on TLC's new series "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." Little Alana, six, is a pageant star whose family is featured in the series, but it appears as though her mother is attempting to steal the spotlight from her daughter.

In an upcoming episode, Alana's mother, June, takes the family shopping at the local supermarket and attempts to find good deals using her coupons.

"Couponing is a serious obsession," June tells the cameras. "Anybody who uses coupons will tell you that it is an addiction. It's better than sex."

As the family loads up their cart with chocolate milk mix, ramen noodles, and mustard, among other things, June struggles to do the calculation necessary to determine her savings. It's clear that June enjoys the limelight and extra attention provided by TLC.

Alana was chosen to be the subject of the series after her performances on another reality series, "Toddlers and Tiaras." Known as Honey Boo Boo by her family, TLC decided to capitalize on the youngster's antics and ferocious attitude. Yet the family also seems to enjoy the stardom Alana has brought with her.

For her part, June is hoping to bring awareness of the competitiveness of pageants for children and do away with stereotypes and the common thought that pageants sexualize young children.

"If you're looking at my child in a sexual manner, there's not something wrong with me as a parent," she told CNN.

"It's fun, I like it," Alana told CNN during an interview. "I feel like a pageant queen … I like hair and make-up more than looking like a normal person."

June came under criticism for giving Alana a concoction known as "Go Go Juice," which is made of Mountain Dew and Red Bull. She often feeds Alana up to 15 Pixy Stix, which are nothing more than powdered sugar. Critics were afraid June was putting her daughter's health second for the sake of competition.
