'Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds' News: Trademark for DLC's Title Gets Suspended

The trademark of "Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds" has been suspended due to a similar filing from another game developer.

Sony Interactive Entertainment filed a trademark for "Horizon Zero Dawn" for their expansion title of "The Frozen Wilds," which has been suspended due to a mobile slot machine game who submitted a similar filing.

User Rösti from Neogaf found the said filing at the United States Patent and Trademark's Office (USPTO) on suspension notice, which has already been on hold for a month. The notice states that a similar trademark has been applied for mobile game developer Huuuge Games ahead of Sony's filing.

Huuuge Games intended to use "Frozen Wild" for their mobile slot machine game.

One reason the trademark was suspended is that it might lead to confusion between the two games.

"If the mark in the referenced application(s) registers, applicant's mark may be refused registration under Section 2(d) because of a likelihood of confusion with that registered mark(s)," the statement reads from the USPTO document.

However, Sony has yet to give out a comment whether this suspension will affect the upcoming launch of "The Frozen Wilds" expansion of "Horizon Zero Dawn." It is still possible for Sony to make their case to point out how there will be no confusion between their game and Huuuge Game's mobile slot machine.

"Horizon Zero Dawn" is an action role-playing video game that follows Aloy as she navigates through a world filled with robots. Aloy uses a variety of weapons partnered with her spear and stealth skills to fight against robots that harm her way.

Aside from robots, Aloy also interacts with three tribes in "Horizon Zero Dawn," which are Nora, Carja, and Oseram. All of which have different skillsets and traditions that contribute to Aloy's journey.

"The Frozen Wilds" is expected to be out on Nov. 7 for PlayStation 4, while "Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition," along with "The Frozen Wilds" downloadable content, will be available on Dec. 5.
