'Hunger Games 3' Mockingjay Part 1 Release Date, Latest News: Singer Lorde Chosen for Movie Soundtrack
Lionsgate announced that the Grammy and Billboard Music Award-winning singer Lorde will be curating the soundtrack for the upcoming third installment of the Hunger Games movie franchise.
The 17-year-old singer and songwriter will also provide the lead single for the movie's soundtrack, which is reported to be released on Nov. 21.
"Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance," The "Royals" singer said in a press release.
"The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people," Lorde added.
"Mockingjay" director Francis Lawrence also shared the excitement, saying that Lorde was the perfect choice for the next film.
"I sat down with Lorde on the set of 'Mockingjay' this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film," Lawrence gushed. "Her immense talent and keen understanding of 'Mockingjay's characters and themes not only have enabled her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film's essence, but her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack."
"I can't wait to share what she's done with the fans — it is truly remarkable," he added.
Previous soundtracks of the first two "Hunger Games" films feature the talents from Arcade Fire, The National, The Decemberists, Patti Smith, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and many more others.
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" will be released in two parts. The first part will hit the theaters this coming Nov. 21 and the second will be on Nov. 20 of next year.
