iOS 5 Release Date is Today, Oct. 12: Hundreds of New Features (VIDEO)

iCloud, Notifications Center, Reminders and iMessages Among Additions

With more than 200 new characteristics, the much ballyhooed Apple iOS 5 operating system for the iPhone, iPad and other mobile devices is available today.

Included in iOS 5 developments are iCloud, Notifications Center, Reminders and iMessages.

 iOS 5 Release Date is Today, Wednesday, October 12

iCloud, which enables users to store and synchronize information on Apple's remote servers, is a free service and will allow users 5GB of online “cloud.” All documents, apps, calendars, mail, contacts, photos, and music automatically push to a user’s other iCloud devices.

Taking a cue from the Android, users will automatically be able to view all notifications at a glance by simply swiping down from the top of the screen. The user no longer has to pause what they are doing to display the new notification.

Similar to Blackberry’s Messenger, sending of unlimited text messages to anyone with iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch is possible with iMessages.

iOS 5 is cordless and can sync all iDevices provided that they are all connected on the same wireless network and is compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, and iPad 2.

London Telegraph tech blogger Shane Richmond wrote: “The latest version of Apple's mobile operating system, iOS 5, is such a significant overhaul that users who install it today will feel like they have a new device.”

Be sure and download the latest version of iTunes 10.5 before the rush. It is necessary in order to be able to update to iOS 5 as the download becomes available.
