iPhone 4s Review: Can't Wait for Siri? Give Vlingo a Try

Vlingo might just be the answer for those who are too impatient to wait for Siri to arrive on Apple's new iPhone 4s.

The most exciting aspect of this Tuesday’s iPhone unveiling was the formal introduction of Siri, a new voice communication application that will be included with iPhone 4s.

Siri appears to have the stuff of legends. It brings voice control interactive technology to instinctive ease. It will provide amazing interaction, following and responding to your commands without being restrained by limited key words to do what you ask.

You can ask it about the weather and it will promptly provide you with the forecast. It will write your text and emails and offer you a list of restaurants ranked by rating.

The device also provides GPS navigation and it can be programmed to remind you of things you frequently forget.

For those who are sold on the practical possibilities of this item, it is disappointing to know that you will not be able to immediately acquire it. It is uncertain when the device will be available for purchase, but some are speculating that it could be months before the iPhone 4s is available to consumers.

Some tech fans are suggesting that consumers consider taking a look at Vlingo, a voice-powered interface for mobile phones which was launched in 2007. Vlingo offers consumers control while utilizing mobile internet just with the power of their voices.

Vlingo is useful with nearly all mobile platforms including Apple iOS, Blackberry, Android, and Windows etc. Vlingo for Android has recently incorporated a new feature named Action Bar, which allows users the luxury of engaging in a wide variety of tasks on the go.

Like Siri, Vlingo can also compose and send email text messages. Up until recently, however, users would have to pay for each of those services, which are now available for free.

Still, for tech watchers, Vlingo’s main detraction is the fact that Apple does not permit users to program the Home button in order to alow a third-party application take over voice control duties.

Some suggest also that due to the fact that Siri is more tightly woven with iOS it will make Siri more user-friendly. Nevertheless, for those unable to wait months for Siri, Vlingo could be the next best thing.
