iPhone 6 Release Date Rumors: Claims of September 16, 2014 Unveiling, Not Available Until October 14

Apple fanatics are pumped up to get their hands on the next generation smartphone device, the iPhone 6, and they have long hoped that the release date will be this September 2014.

However, they may have to wait a little longer until October 2014 to get their hands on the device, according to new rumors, if a MacRumors report is true.

According to numerous reports over recent months, there have been various leaks that pointed to a September 2014 announcement and the unveiling of the new iPhone 6. However, the tech website has now claimed that although Apple is indeed planning a mid-September event to present the iPhone 6, as well as the iOS 8, the company will not roll-out the next generation device until October 14, 2014.

However, AppleInsider notes that Oct. 14, which is a Tuesday, is an unlikely release date because the mobile company has a tradition of releasing their latest devices on Fridays. The month-long wait between the unveiling and release date is also rather questionable as Apple also has a custom of releasing its new smartphones just a week after every unveiling.

In regards to the hottest rumors of the new features, LEDinside analysts from Trendforce, a leading firm for market research, noted that they haven't noticed a spike of orders for sapphire glass in the production line. This strongly suggests that Apple might not be in a hurry for its rumored roll-out in September.

The analyst was quoted as saying, "The sapphire material is still being applied in new generation Apple smartphones camera lenses and fingerprint recognition readers. If the new iPhone keeps up Apple's previous smartphone models hot selling records, sapphire demands will be driven by the smartphone's applications till the end of this year.

"However, the much anticipated sapphire cover glass remains missing from the picture. Analysis of the iPhone 6 supply chain indicates related component suppliers need to ship products to OEMs for assembly in June 2014 to meet the September launch date. Yet, the research institute did not discover demands for smartphone cover glass. The sapphire glass version new iPhone will be issued in limited volumes this year, mostly because sapphire ingot manufacturers yield rates were lower than forecasts and issues involved in sapphire glass processing."

But then, there's still a possibility that the smartphone company could opt to release its sapphire glass-integrated handheld devices in a limited number, according to some Apple blogs. However, that again would be a significant change from the way Apple has previously launched its flagship device.

Specs rumors for the sixth-generation iPhone suggest that it will run an Apple A8, with in-app features including Near Field Communication (for mobile payments), Touch ID, and a much improved camera. Case color options would still be the same as the iPhone 5S (Silver, Gold, and Space Gray) if rumors prove correct.
