IQ Tests Women and Men, Finds That Women are Smarter: Some Men Furious

After an age-old battle between the sexes, a new study has discovered that women may actually be smarter than men.

New Zealand-based researcher James Flynn, an IQ test expert, discovered during a recent study that women often score higher on IQ tests than men. While in the past women may have earned scores much lower than their compatriots, it appears that now not only have females closed the gap- they have surpassed the scores of men.

"Over the last 100 years, everyone in the developing world has been gaining about three IQ points, but women have been gaining faster," Flynn told ABC News. "This is the result of modernity. In every country where women have an equal chance of modernity, women have caught men [in IQ testing]."

The studies were conducted in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Estonia and Argentina. In each country, at least 500 men and 500 women were tested, mostly between the ages of 15-18.

"In all of those samples, women are the equal of men, perhaps scoring a half point or a point higher," Flynn said.

Flynn attributed the changes to possibly better work ethic by women that has been enhanced with greater opportunities for education.

"As we enter the modern worlds, our minds change just as our automobiles have changed," Flynn said. "Where women can have an equal chance to interface with the modern world, they equal on IQ and surpass on academic performance."

The next question then, is how long it will take to eliminate the gender wage gap. At current men still make more than woman in the work force. Economica has stated that the wage gap between men and women in 2011 was 26.5 percent.

While that number has decreased from 29.2 percent in 2001, the research group Shannon and Kidd incorporate have projected that the wage gap in 2031 will still be about 21.9 percent despite the fact that more woman now account for university attendance than men, particularly in the fields once male-dominated- such as engineering, applied sciences, and mathematics.

Higher IQ or not, without some serious action, it appears that men will still outrank women- fair or not. That fact, however, didn't stop some men from getting upset about a study claiming that women could be more intelligent.

"Why would ABC put such a misleading story on their newscast? The tagline on World News read 'Women are Smarter'. That's quite a claim…" truthwouldbegood wrote on the ABC blog.

"I watched this report on the evening news and I was pretty intrigued, mostly because I'm a man and I felt like my kin was somehow falling behind. Now that I read this article I feel very assured that this article has no significant meaning," Joe T added.

Many men insisted that IQ was not an "accurate measure of intelligence."
