Jeff Gordon Fight Breaks Out After NASCAR Vengeance Crash (VIDEO)

Sparks flew on and off the track this weekend at the AdvoCare500, during which Kevin Harvick took home first place.

Three quarters of the race took off without a hitch. Then came an accidental wall slam by Jimmie Johnson, whose right tire gave out. The crash, however, didn't compare to Jeff Gordon's vengeance. He and Clint Bowyer were racing side to side for a time, until Bowyer hit Gordon's rear tire, forcing the car to crash. But Gordon wasted no time in getting the car back on the track.

Later in the race, Gordon was flagged for going "too slow." He apparently was holding off on his speed in anticipation of meeting up with Bowyer. After Bowyer passed, Gordon intentionally crashed the car, creating a fire below. But that was the end of things and sparks flew off the track too when Gordon met with the unhappy crew members of Bowyer's pit.

Gordon managed to drive his broken down car, into the garage where he discovered that members of Bowyer's were awaiting him. The group initiated a fistfight, as Bowyer himself rushed to free himself from his car in order to join in, according to reports.

Gordon later stated that his actions were justified because it was not the first time that Bowyer had struck his car and caused a crash.

"It's just things have gotten escalated over the year, and I've just had it," Gordon told USA Today after meeting with NASCAR officials. "Clint's run into me numerous times, wrecked me, and he got into me on the back straightaway and pretty much ruined our day. I've had it and was fed up with it and got him back."

But Harvick, the winner of the race, said that it was all in good fun and encouraged more fighting within NASCAR.

"The sport was made on fights. We should have more fights. I like fights," Kevin Harvick, who won told reporters, via The Associated Press. "They're not always fun to be in, sometimes you're on the wrong end, but fights are what made NASCAR what it is."
