A representative for actor Justin Theroux has confirmed that he and girlfriend actress Jennifer Aniston are now engaged.

"Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage," the actor's representative confirmed with People magazine on Sunday.

The couple has been dating for over a year after co-starring together on the film "Wanderlust," directed by David Wain.

Since the budding of their relationship in May 2011, the couple has been spotted in various parts of the world, holding hands and laughing and looking very much in love.

The two were photographed touring Europe this past June, staying in the French Riviera and parts of Italy.

Tabloids also speculated in June that Aniston had been spotted traipsing around New York City wearing a sparkling diamond ring on her ring finger, however those reports were never confirmed.

In an interview with "MTV First" earlier in 2012, Aniston said of her "Wanderlust" co-star Theroux: "What I think is so awesome about Justin is that he really just disappears."

"He sort of morphs into things, into characters and also has a leading-man quality, which I think is beautiful. He's just great," she added.

This is the second marriage for Aniston, 43, and the first for Theroux, 41.

Aniston was previously married to famed actor Brad Pitt, who she divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage.

Pitt is married to actress Angelina Jolie, who has long been rumored to be a rival of Aniston. Pitt and Jolie reportedly are also engaged.

After divorcing Pitt, the media often questioned if Aniston would ever wed again or a have a child, a question which irked the actress.

"It's very narrow-minded, I think. It doesn't measure the level or my happiness or success in my life and my achievements or any of that," Aniston told"CBS This Morning" earlier this year.
