Hewitt has kept her mother's sickness private, but, as People magazine explained, the 33-year-old actress has always maintained a close relationship with her mother, who has supported her through her various career choices.

According to Us Weekly magazine, Jennifer Love Hewitt had been tweeting while on her trip to Monaco to attend the Monte Carlo Television Festival this past week, but made it back to Los Angeles just in time to pay her respects to her ailing mother.

Hewitt and her mother moved from Texas to Los Angeles in 1989 for Hewitt to pursue her career in acting. She landed her first gig in "Kids Incorporated" next to actor Eric Balfour.

She then went on to star in such popular hits as the television series "Party of Five," as well as the films "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Can't Hardly Wait".

Hewitt made a reference to her mother in an interview with Parade magazine in April 2012.

"I've tried not to act too crazy or disrespect the opportunities that I have been given or the people that have believed in me," Hewitt told the magazine.

"I've been really blessed and I don't necessarily know what keeps one person here longer than somebody else, but I couldn't feel more grateful," she added.

Hewitt and her brother, Dr. Todd Hewitt, mourn their mother's loss.
