Jeremy Camp to Share Life Story in TV Special

The man voted by Christian music fans as the "Best Male Artist" for five consecutive years will take center stage this weekend in the newest installment of the Gospel Music Channel's "Faith & Fame" biography series.

On Saturday, the television network will provide a special glimpse into the personal life of Christian music star Jeremy Camp, who recently topped tobyMac, Chris Tomlin, Brandon Heath, and Jon Foreman for the title of "Best Male Artist" in Christianity Today magazine's sixth annual voter-driven music awards.

Through "Faith & Fame: Jeremy Camp," which makes its world premiere at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, Christian music fans will get a closer look into the depth of tragedy that could have crippled Camp's musical gifts, but served to fuel them instead.

"After Melissa died, I never thought I'd be here," Camp told Christianity Today in a past interview, referring to the loss of his first wife. "But God just opened up my life."

Before producing 16 number one songs, winning five Dove Awards and three ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Awards, Camp was a preacher's kid who strayed from the path of faith in his teen years and on to a path toward destruction. Though Camp would later get his life back on track, tragedy didn't escape him.

At the age of 23, Camp's wife of less than a year succumbed to cancer and passed away, leaving him in a place of darkness, hurt, and confusion.

But it was from the pain and grief that Camp was moved to write hit after hit, pulling from not only his loss, but from the strength that he says God had given him during that time.

"There are still scars. There are still memories," Camp recalled to Christianity Today.

"But I can't deny that God has blessed me immensely," added the remarried father of two. "I have to be so thankful. I have two kids, my beautiful wife, I'm just blown away at God's grace and God's faithfulness."

On Saturday, Camp will join other music stars whose lives have been captured by GMC's "Faith & Fame" series including Nicole C. Mullen, Kirk Franklin, The Katinas, Steven Curtis Chapman, Mark Shultz, and Michael W. Smith, among others.

As a complement to Camp's episode of "Faith & Fame," exclusive devotional videos have been made available on GospelMusicChannel.com in which he talks about the scriptures he thought about when writing the song "So In Love" and what being "alive" means to him.
