Jerry Sandusky Indictment Scandal: Did He Use Charity to Pimp Out Boys to Rich Donors?

Mark Madden, a Pittsburgh radio host, says that although the allegations against Jerry Sandusky are repulsive, they may only be the tip of the iceberg.

Madden told John Dennis and Gerry Callahan, two other radio talk show hosts, that the next piece of the story could be about a rumor he heard some time ago: Jerry Sandusky, and his charity, Second Mile, had been selling young boys’ sexual services for money.

When asked about the next piece of news to break regarding the sexual assault case, Madden stunned the two hosts with “something [he thought] might happen”: “Jerry Sandusky and Second Mile were pimping out young boys to rich donors.”

Madden goes on to admit that the accusations are just rumors for now, but that the incident “was being investigated by two prominent columnists even as I speak.”

The Dennis and Callahan show is a widely known sports talk show, and they invited Madden on because he has experience with the Sandusky case going back to 1998.

Even back then, the Penn State defensive coordinator was accused of improper conduct with an underage child, but no charges were ever formally filed. The next year, Sandusky retired.

That was enough to get Madden’s attention.

The radio talk show host went on to write an opinioned article exposing Sandusky for the charges that went unpunished, and pointed to his odd retirement. Madden asked the tough questions, like, “Why did college football let an accomplished coach like Sandusky walk away at 55?” and “What’s more important, Penn State football or the welfare of a few kids?”

In 1998, Sandusky was being investigated for his pedophilia, and very little was done. Detectives actually hid in his house to collect evidence of the coach’s activities with kids.

Despite the scrutiny, very little was ever done. Sandusky was absolved of any real wrongdoing, and to Madden, that was the problem.

In 2002, Sandusky was caught again, this time by then-graduate assistant Mike McQueary, who told Paterno. Nothing was done.

Only in 2009, when a 15-year-old came forward against the legendary defensive coach was any progress made in the investigation. Madden thinks the reason things took so long is because Penn State athletics- especially Paterno in particular- were trying to cover things up.

Madden wrote: “It seems logical to ask: What did Paterno know, and when did he know it? What did Penn State's administration know, and when did they know it?”

The recent rumors about Sandusky and the Second Mile’s activity concerning the pimping of young boys is yet unsubstantiated, but Madden thinks it would be foolish to put anything past the troubled sports instructor.

Madden tweeted later after the show, “I normally abhor giving RUMORS credence. But whole Sandusky scandal started out as a RUMOR. It gets deeper and more disgusting all the time… I am NOT rumor's original source. [Why does] Sandusky deserve benefit of doubt?"
