Jessica Sanchez 'Glee' Debut? 'American Idol' Star Lands Recurring Role

Former "American Idol" star Jessica Sanchez has officially signed on for a recurring role in "Glee," according to reports.

Last season on "American Idol," Sanchez captivated the audience with her rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You." Despite her powerful vocals, the Idol hopeful was beat out in the last round by rival Phillip Phillips.

Sanchez will appear on "Glee" for a multiple episode story according to TVLine. However, no other details were released on what role the 16-year-old would likely play.

Bette Midler has also reportedly accepted a guest role on the television musical. The show's co-creator, Ryan Murphy, confirmed the news on his Twitter account.

"I just asked the incredible Bette Midler to be on Glee in front of 1,000 people. I hope she says yes!" Murphy tweeted Monday before getting a confirmation.

"Bette said yes! Amazing. I am plotting…who should she play?" he wrote moments later.

Midler responded on her own Twitter account, by suggesting a possible role.

"I have one vote for Rachel's grandmother...hmmmm. I'm thinking, I'm thinking!!" she wrote.

In the meantime, last season's "American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips has announced an official release date for his first album. Initial rumors suggested that the album would be delayed until January or February. This week, though, it was announced that the album will be released on Nov. 19, and it's called The World From The Side Of The Moon. Philips reported finishing his last track Tuesday on his Twitter account.

Some users suggested that Sanchez had gained the final edge over Phillips with a "Glee" appearance that could be more worthwhile than an album.

"Sanchez was obviously the better vocalist, and going on Glee is probably the best thing for her career and future since album sales would alllude her," Robert opined on the Yahoo blog.
