Joe Flacco Best Quarterback in NFL: Peyton Who?

Peyton Manning who? Who cares about Tim Tebow? Not Joe Flacco, because according to the Baltimore Raven's quarterback, Flacco is the best there is.

During recent negotiations with the Ravens' Joe Linta, Flacco's agent argued that Flacco was one of the NFL's top five quarterbacks based on wins. If Linta's comment met with skepticism, Flacco's later comment on the Baltimore radio station WNST certainly raised some eyebrows. When the radio asked Flacco if he thought he was a top five quarterback he said no, because he think he's number one.

"I assume everybody thinks they're a top-five quarterback. I mean, I think I'm the best. I don't think I'm top five, I think I'm the best. I don't think I'd be very successful at my job if I didn't feel that way. I mean, c'mon? That's not really too tough of a question," Flacco said on the air. "But that doesn't mean that things are gonna work out that way. It just means that that's the way it is, that's the way I feel it is, and that's the way I feel it should be."

Yahoo Sports appeared to question Flacco's actual winning abilities without team support.

"One wonders just how many of those wins Flacco would have posted without Ray Rice, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, and one of the best overall teams in the NFL, but we digress, because Flacco doesnt want to hear it," sportswriter Doug Farrar wrote on Yahoo.

"If handing the ball to Ray Rice makes you the best quarterback in the NFL, then I guess he's the best!" Brian added on the Yahoo blog.

Of course Flacco won't have to worry about that because he seems to have plenty of team support, even when it comes to his comments about being number one. Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said Wednesday that his comment wasn't unusual.

"I don't think any player, any coach, any GM does not think they are the best at what they do," Newsome said during a joint news conference. "For Joe to say that, I think it's a common thing."

However in the view of sports fans, Flacco may just be a middle-tier contestant.

"I would put him somewhere in the middle of the pack. He isn't likely to be the person who wins a game for you but he is also unlikely to be the person who loses the game for you," GP said on the Yahoo Sports blog.

"Oh Flacco, if i really put all 32 starting quarterbacks in order of best to worst, i doubt you'd even be in the top 10. i have nothing negative to say about flacco, i hope he does good, but currently he's not up there, and surely isnt elite," JB said.
