She’s known for her multicultural brood and humanitarian aid work, but Angelina Jolie still remembers her wild youth and recently sat down with 60 Minutes to reflect.
In a candid interview with Bob Simon, the 36-year-old UN ambassador opens up about her dark past and although she’s become a role model for fans she admits “I am very lucky….I shouldn’t be here.”
The Mr. and Mrs. Smith actress, also known for her alleged love affair with famed Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt, explains “You just... too many times where you came close to too many dangerous things, too many chances taken too, too far.”
In Angelina An Unauthorized Biography, Andrew Morton writes "Jolie’s battle with Heroin, cocaine and anorexia during her teens and early 20s, her bisexuality, the loss of her virginity at age 14 to a boy named Anton – whom her mother let move into their house – and her addictive romantic relationships with men and women."
Once married to actor Billy Bob Thornton – 20 years her senior, sources claim their relationship was extremely unhealthy with Jolie said to have been addicted to him and often even seen wearing his blood vial as jewelry.
Sources also claim it was Angelina’s own mother who in 2000 checked her into UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute just days before her wedding to Thornton.
“In her heightened state, struggling to stay off heroin and wrestling her addiction to Billy Bob, Angie went to pieces,” Morton reveals.
Another controversial relationship was Jolie’s lesbian affair with Jenny Shimizu in 1996.
Jolie has recently come under media scrutiny for her rapid decline in weight, with Grazia Magazine suggesting the spiritual starlet lives on just 600 calories a day, they quoted a source as saying, “Angelina has been known to start her day with little more than a spoonful of coconut oil and a handful of cereal...The worrying thing is she is so busy she often forgets to eat."
