Jonathan Taylor Thomas Returns to Television

Jonathan Taylor Thomas and his on-screen father Tim Allen have reunited on television with the sitcom "Last Man Standing."

The actors portrayed father and son on the long-running television series "Home Improvement." Thomas, now 31-years-old, became a teenage idol after starring on the series.

Following the show's end on ABC in 1999, Thomas kept a very low profile while attending college. The actor explained that his former teenage heartthrob image sometimes embarrassed him, according to a past interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"There are too many things you could make fun of," Thomas, also known as JTT, revealed.

Furthermore, the actor took time "off the radar" in order to do the things he never had time for during his acting career.

"I've been going to school, and traveling quite a bit, getting to read a lot of books I've wanted to for quite some time," the Pennsylvania native noted.

Thomas also hinted at his interest in working behind the camera.

"That's not to say I would never act again, I'm not quite sure to be honest," said the actor. "I still have a passion for TV and film."

Before Allen had asked him to appear on "Last Man Standing," the former colleagues met up during the "Home Improvement" cast reunion last year, where they received a very warm welcome.

"That actually sort of surprises me," Thomas said. "I didn't know there would be that kind of response."

As for "Last Man Standing," the series marks another family comedy for Allen and Thomas. Although Thomas appeared in guest spots on "The Simpsons," "Smallville," and "8 Simple Rules," the actor has largely been off the air since 2005.

In his upcoming role on "Last Man Standing," Thomas will portray Jon, a hipster and restaurant owner who formerly worked with Allen's on-screen eldest daughter. Little else is known about the role.

On Twitter, JTT fans sounded off about his return to television on Wednesday.

"JONATHAN TAYLOR THOMAS," posted Nikki. "Be still my young ten year old heart."

"Jonathan Taylor Thomas was the LOVE of my childhood life," posted another user. "And now he is back from hiding."

Thomas will appear on "Last Man Standing" on March 22. The television series airs on ABC Saturdays at 8 p.m. EST.
