Kanye West New Album Release Coming Soon, Def Jam Holds Listening Session

A new album by Kanye West will be released sometime this year as his record label Def Jam has already had the opportunity to listen to the entire project.

Radio DJ and personality Peter Rosenburg announced this on Hot 97's morning show earlier today.

"I just heard that Def Jam had a listening last week and everyone at the label listened to the album and loved it. I heard it's dark but really good," he said. "I was told its dark. Dark Twisted Fantasy was dark too, I love when Kanye goes to that place."

Kanye West's last album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, also known as MBDTF, was released back in 2010 and debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 496,000 copies in its first week.

The album was preceded by West's G.O.O.D. Friday series where the rapper and producer debuted a new song every Friday. It is unknown whether West will use this same marketing strategy when promoting this new record.

MBDTF eventually reached 1,254,000 sold and was well received by critics. The album explored the darker side of the rapper's mind and greatly differed sonically and lyrically from his first three hip-hop albums. Judging from Rosenburg's words, this album appears to carry that same tone.

Kanye West also released collaboration projects in between MBDTF and this new record including his collaboration album with Jay-Z Watch the Throne in 2011, and his record label's Cruel Summer G.O.O.D. Music compilation in 2012.

That album also featured appearances from members of his label including Big Sean, Pusha T, John Legend and Kid Cudi, as well as outside guests such as R. Kelly, Jadakiss, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah.
