Middleton has much more to look forward to in the year 2013. The Duchess and her husband Prince William announced last month that they are expecting their first child this summer.

Although she is under 12 weeks along, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were forced to announce that they are expecting after the Duchess required medical treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum, or acute morning sickness. Symptoms are known to include excessive vomiting and nausea, likely contributing to Middleton's quiet birthday celebration.

Also due to her rare condition, the Duchess' has reportedly experienced a change in her palate. According to an insider, the Duchess has a new penchant for a unique treat- Lavender Shortbread.

"A lot of women develop cravings during pregnancy and Kate is no exception," a source told The Sun. "She has got a real taste for these biscuits."

The unique sweet treat combines the buttery cookie with the aromatic herb, resulting in one of today's most posh desserts. Furthermore, lavender is believed to lend pregnant women relief from morning sickness- making it a perfect snack for the Duchess.

"Lavender is said to have healing properties, so it is not such a wacky food to nibble on when you're pregnant," added the insider.

The insider also noted Middleton's battle with morning sickness.

"Some women eat raw onions when they're pregnant," the source added. "But Kate's joked that she's keeping it classy. It's just a shame she can't keep her food down for long!"

Furthermore, Middleton is not expected to travel on any royal tours aboard until 2014; well after welcoming the royal baby.
