Kellie Pickler Shaved Head Wows at CMAs

Kelly Pickler wowed fans after attending the 2012 CMAs with her short-cropped haircut on Thursday.

The country music singer shaved her head in early September in support of her childhood best friend, Summer Holt Miller, who was diagnosed with cancer.

Showing off her bold new look in Nashville on Thursday, Pickler paired her short blonde locks with a pale blue Pamella Roland gown and Tacori diamond earrings.

"My sister is with child, everybody wants to rub her belly, and everybody wants to rub my head," Pickler told CMT on the red carpet ahead of the 46th Annual Country Music Association Awards.

The 26-year-old harbors no regret for shearing off her long blonde hair. In doing so, she offered moral support to her best friend while increasing awareness of breast cancer.

"It this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it," Pickler said in a video posted to Twitter at the time.

"Cancer does not discriminate," she added.

Pickler and Miller shaved their heads together on the first day of Miller's chemotherapy treatment.

Fortunately, Miller had been very wary of breast cancer since it runs in her family. The 36-year-old requested a mammogram when she felt something was wrong, and after doctors found a tumor, the mother of two was diagnosed with the disease in June.

While Miller is currently cancer-free after a double mastectomy, the chemotherapy treatments will help ensure that the cancer does not return.

Today, Pickler still loves her short haircut.

"It's growing back," she told E! News.

She added that the new 'do allows her "to sleep in a little longer" now that she no longer has to style long hair.

Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood hosted the 2012 CMAs. The show saw performances by country music stars such as Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan and many more.
