Kris Allen Expecting Baby Boy in July: To Dress Like Father?

Former American Idol Winner Kris Allen has announced that he and his wife will have a baby boy.

The 2009 American Idol winner declared that he was excited to be a father while announcing the baby's due date. Allen is married to High School sweetheart Katy O'Connell. The pair first met during Allen's junior year in school and they were wed in 2008.

"I'm very excited," Allen told Hollywire.com. "I've always wanted to be a dad...so, it's coming in July."

Allen also noted that his wife seemed intent on dressing the new baby to resemble his father. The "Live Like We're Dying" singer is famous for wearing fedora hats.

"My wife has already started buying him some clothes like me…he does have some fedoras," Allen said.

After winning Idol, Allen landed on the Top 100 Billboard Charts with five different songs; his debut song "No Boundaries" reaching number 11. "Live Like We're Dying" debuted at 18 and went platinum with over 1.7 million hits.

Allen first announced that he and his wife were expecting in January following a car accident.

"Thank you @ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family @katyallen @ZorroPup and the little one we have on the way safe," he tweeted after the accident.

He later confirmed: "Yes I got in a really bad wreck tonight and yes I'm having a lil baby. #gonnabeadaddy."

Allen is currently on tour, despite injuries to his wrist, which have prevented him from playing guitar.

"It's getting better but it's slow," Allen said previously according to AOL. "Apparently I shattered it. I'm not quite playing [guitar] yet, but I'm getting there. It's so frustrating, but it's OK. I've actually started picking it up and messing around with it a little bit."

He recently performed at SXSW in Austin.
