Lark Voorhies 'Battling Demons,' Mother Claims

When Lark Voorhies finally emerged from the shadows a few months ago, fans were shocked by her appearance. Instead of the glamorous "Lisa Turtle" they were familiar with, Voorhies appeared gaunt and unwell. Now her mother has claimed that her daughter is "battling demons" and suffering from mental health issues.

"I care deeply about my daughter and I want her to resume her life … it's frustrating," Voorhies' mother, Tricia, told People magazine. "She's trying so hard. She says she's delayed, but she's going to get there."

Voorhies and her mother have tried to seek medical help, but the doctors "can't explain it, can't treat it. They don't know about it," she told People.

Making it more difficult to accept help is the fact that Voorhies is a Jehovah's Witness. Members may refuse medical care like blood transfusions or be skeptical of treatment not Biblically based.

Tricia Voorhies told People that her daughter's mental health suffered greatly after the end of "Saved by the Bell" and a failed marriage.

"It caused a kind of break … The trauma was back," Tricia explained. Now she is trying to get her daughter back on the path to healing and recovery.

During one interview, Voorhies participated in "near-constant dialogue- by turns mournful, frenetic and angry- with unseen figures," according to People magazine. When asked about her odd behavior, she explained: "We met at a very powerful moment- it's like carrying on the interview in a hurricane."

Back in March, Voorhies spoke about her new company, "Yo Soy Production," and a new film, "The Hope for Pandora's Box," which she not only wrote, but also directed and starred in. There has been no more talk about any of her projects, which may be derailed by her erratic behavior.
